This book probably contains all the information the reader might wish to find about warplanes from what was easily the great age of aerial combat - the First World War (1914-1918). Sadly the book contains no index, so one has to read this book in order to find anything specific.
The book itself gives the appearance of being a collection of magazines from that hugely successful series "Purnell's History of the First World War." In other words, a collection of non-glossy magazines stuck together with all the title pages missing.
Having said that, it does provide an excellent account of the emergence of the aircraft as a fighting machine of war during one of the greatest periods of carnage which some generals - speaking from the safety of their bunkers several miles from any battlefield, called war.
