At 2140 hours on 23 October, 1942, the guns of the British Eighth Army unleashed a massive barrage upon the German Panzerarmee Afrika. Then in the darkness, the infantry and the sappers moved forward through the minefields whilst, behind them, the tank crews prepared their mounts for battle. This was the beginning of the Battle of El Alamein. This book is a tribute to the men who lived and fought in the Western Desert, and who achieved victory.
