The story of six US Marine Corps fighting divisions in World War II. The First and Second Divisions were composed mainly of regulars and highly trained reservists, the Third Division was the first of the strictly wartime units, and the first island many of the men of the Fourth Division ever saw was the one they had come to sieze, the Fifth had only one campaign to its credit but suffered the highest casualties of any unit of comparable size in a single operation, and the Sixth was formed in the field from a combination of new and veteran units.
