Born in the UK the author did not set foot in America until he was 21. He served in both the British and US armies before being recruited into the OSS to see action in France, Belgium and Germany during World War II. When the CIA was created in 1947 he joined what was to be the Clandestine service undertaking operations in post colonial Africa and the Far East. These memoirs not only recount his wartime services but also his unique experiences running CIA stations in Congo, Senegal and Burundi in the 1960s. U.S. edition published in the UK as 'Inside Espionage'.
