The attack on Greece and Yugoslavia got under way on 6th April, 1941 when German forces started to move across the borders. After the initial assaults Hungarian and Italian armies joined the invasion. With Axis forces controlling both countries by late April, the stage was set for the formation of well organized bands of Guerillas in Yugoslavia and Greece who took to the mountains and began striking back at the invaders.
