1st Edition.

A stunning book, giving a vivid account of Alanbrook's experience as Britain's chief strategist during WW2. It's eye-opening to read about his relationship with Churchill, and the way in which Alanbrooke felt he had to steer and cajole the PM to drop harebrained schemes in favour of a consistent, coherent strategy. The sheer determination with which this man pursued his vision of containing and then attacking the Axis, and the way this allows you to experience the fear and anxiety of not knowing how it would all turn out, is riveting. It's time this man was recognised for his enormous contribution to the war effort. His name should sit alongside Churchill's, at the very least. (Amazon review).
