Innes Munro was a junior officer in the 71st Foot (McLeod's Highlanders). These letters are from his service in India between 1779 and 1784. He recounts his outward voyage via Madeira and Capetown, and goes on to recount his impressions of the exotic scenes and events he witnessed in and around Madras. He took part in the war against Hyder Ali, the ruler of Mysore.
