A detailed history of the famous Spitfire fighter, from the Mark 1 through the Mark 24. The most accurate account of the evolution of the Spitfire, describing several little-known aspects of the Spitfire's operational career, including the non-stop flights from Gibralter into besieged Malta over a distance as great as that from London to Leningrad. Also describes the highest altitude air combat of all of WWII & the operations of the Mark 21 Spitfires just before the war ended, during one of which a German midget submarine was sunk.
