As the number of those who used the NAAFI dwindles, it is excellent to have this history of such a vital, vast and successful Institute. The author offers a moving story - one which underlines how the British and their armed forces were able to have a little bit of home close to them wherever they were in the world, and how the maintenance of morale was so important and successful. I purchased the book as background reading to a study of the British army that invaded Normandy. I read every word since it offers a fascinating picture of by-gone eras, well told, well illustrated and, as I say, moving. The NAAFI, successful as it was through excellent organization and simple dedication by the men and women who made up its staff is an object lesson to all military men, managers and those who look after others
