US and Russian citizens recall in vivid detail what life was like in World War II. The book examines the contrasts of the two Home Fronts and the views of the soldiers who served at the battlefronts. Includes chapters on the famous meeting on the Elbe, a Soviet woman's recollection of forming her own combat unit with teenage girls, and an American woman tells of ferrying fighter planes to the Soviet Air Force. An interesting contrast of views and experiences. Includes rare photographs from Russian and American archives.
