The eventual outcome of the evolution of the original Yak-1 design, a crude and unpopular aircraft, the Yak 9 went on to long service after the cessation of World War II. Roughly comparable to the P-51 Mustang the Yak 9 was removed from front line service after the start of the Korean War as the early jets started to replace propellor aircraft.
