The foreword by Douglas Bader describes this as an unusual Prisoner of War story. It is not the story of a successful escape but the story of the author and a group who escaped from a POW camp in Eastern Germany, getting farther down the route to the Southeast and the Balkans. Recaptured time and time again but never reaching their goal in Turkey. They were eventually rescued from Romania by the US Army Air Force.
