An account of the surrender of the German forces in Italy in WWII - five days before the final capitulation of Axis forces in Europe. The author examines the involvement of Obergruppenfuhrer Karl Wolf, a former close colleague of Himmler, and Allen Dulles, the US OSS representative in Switzerland. It provoked bitter controversy with the Russians who were not included in the negotiations. A story of intrigue and rivalry, desperate hopes and unrealistic expectations.
