I really like this story, a breath of air from an earlier and, I think, more innocent age. It is a lightly fictionalized account of the author's exploit in sailing a Russian steamer from the Dardanelles through Turkish coastal waters to Syria during WWII, evading the German naval blockade in an unarmed tanker. There is a slight but very innocent dose of romantic interest with a young Russian? female agent, but aside from mutual attraction and respect, nothing actually happens between her and our hero. He seems to regard the war as a sort of game, albeit a deadly one. I found his account of the navigational and political hazards of his journey fascinating. Especially to be recommended to nautical fans.
