Emanuele Concas left for Nassiriya on December 4, 2003, to document the humanitarian mission "Ancient Babylon" that the Government entrusted to the Armed Forces. He stayed in Iraq for almost a month, living with the Italian soldiers of the Sassari Brigade, sharing their days at White Horse, the patrols, the distribution of humanitarian aid, the meals, the nights, the creeping fear of an attack, but also moments of relaxation and leisure, trying to understand what drives these young people to live in difficult conditions like those imposed on the "soldiers of peace." Leaving to others the judgments on the reasons for this war and staying distant from interventionist or pacifist ideologies, Emanuele Concas recounted through his articles and his images the sadness of a city deeply affected by the war and the work of the Italian Armed Forces, committed to restoring an identity to this region. By taking part in events, sharing emotions, joys, and fears, the Author tried to create a snapshot of the Italian experience in Nassiriya.
