Whether fighting the Barbary Pirates in 1805, storming the fireswept beaches of Tarawa in 1943 or holding Khe Sanh against the North Vietnamese army in 1968 the marines have displayed an elan second to none. Accompanying the text are fabulous color and black & white illustrations (prior to the Civil War) and outstanding photographs from the Civil War through the publication date (1988).
