Translated from the original German publication by H.A. and J.A. Barker. A history of the elite "Fallschirmjager", their formation, and the battles they fought in WWII. The author analyses the fortunes of the 'Green Devils' as the paratroopers were known, and concentrates on their largest operations - their landings around Malame on Crete and their actions as foot soldiers in Africa, at Cassino and after D-Day.
