Shot down with his Beaufort crew whilst hunting the Scharnhorst the author, as a 'guest' of Germany, was held at Oflag XC-Lubeck, Oflag VIB-Warburg, Oflag XXIB-Schubin and Stalag Luft III- Saga. During his time in captivity he used his draughtsman's expertise to create documents for escapers. By the time he was liberated his 6ft frame weighed only 90lbs.
