Only Firebombers have the speed, accuracy and flexibility to localize and defeat a blaze half-way up a mountainside, a task achieved by laying a barrier of retardant in the path of the fire. This kind of flying is demanding and inherently dangerous and many pilots simply do not have what it takes to haul a fully-loaded aeroplane into a 'bombing run' along a blazing inferno with mountain peaks brushing the wingtips.
