Clearly written and understandably organized, this classic book about European political, social, economic, and intellectual history covers events throughout the Continent from 1914 to the 1960s, treating Europe as a single unit.

No d/w. The author, a Professor, from Harvard University, Activist, and widely travelled in Europe, considers the history of Europe from 1914 to the 1960's looking at the wars, the cold war, strategies, culture and innovations. In his preface he advises that a historian should not hesitate to express opinion and pass judgements and makes no apologies for his own explicit views.
