Review: "This book is about the long slow ordeal of passing through the jungles of Burma, to attack the forces of Imperial Japan from the rear and catch them unexpectedly. It was done by men who had never in their lives dreamed of such a place, all the time in fear of the Japanese guerilla techniques and ruthlessness, and yet plodding on, dealing with leaches, mosquitoes, the ordeal of crossing rivers, listening to the Japanese voices at night. Haunting, gripping and in the end, I was in awe reading this, feeling the greatest respect for very ordinary men who simply had to deal with what they were thrown into. Recommended." (Amazon buyer)
