This illustrated book charts the development of British Fighters during World War II. Pitched Unwillingly and ill-prepared into a war of survival against overwhelming strength and quality of Hitler's Luftwaffe, British aircraft designers and airmen were challenged to develop existing fighters and to produce new types against a background of limited time, resources and war-torn facilities. These aircraft wrote the history of Britain in those war-ravaged skies and were the greatest testament to the qualities of British ingenuity, ability and will to survive.
