A pictorial study of the versatile and widely used WWII German seaplane. Numerous photos illustrate the aircraft in service.

This Schiffer title, Arado AR196, is dedicated to the WWII German seaplane used on numerous fronts wherever the German navy was to be found.

This book is 47 pages long and intended to be a brief introduction to the subject. As a pictorial, it serves model makers and WWII aviation buffs. The photos themselves are quite good and offer both factory and military views of the aircraft though there are no color plates. It does include line drawings of the AR196 also.

The photos give the reader very good views of the aircraft on the water, on ship and in the air. There are pics of the AR196 on the catapults of the Prinz Eugen and the Gneisenau. One can imagine that the Graf Spee used its AR196 to find victims for its guns! There are also pictures of the AR196 being refueled, maintained, with wings folded, on the catapult, being recovered with the German "wake" employed on their ships.
