Written at a time when most of his contemporaries were fighting in WWI, Hay has written a novel reflecting social attitudes among the upper classes in the early part of the 20th century. The novel commences at Cambridge University and the Rowing Club. It then jumps forward 10 years when the hero, Hughie Marrable is preparing to return from New York. Atlantic crossings, uncles, wards and their fortunes, and music hall ladies feature in further chapters of this classic. It was first published in 1910. Blue boards, cocked spine, pages browning. Original owner name on endpaper.
