Subtitled "Including a Description of the Volunteer Movement and the Progress of the Volunteer Organisation". Published by Edward Stanford in London in 1871, this is an extremely scarce first edition written by 'Military jounalist' Stocqueler, whose extensive works include 'The Illustrated Life of the Duke of Wellington', 'The Memoirs of Sir William Nott', 'The British Soldier', 'The Familiar History of India' and 'The familiar history of the United States'. Presented in embossed boards rebound in maroon cloth with gilt on blue spine title, the volume is in fine condition apart from traces of very light foxing, primarily toward the back of the book.
