The life and letters of Louis Stokes, from a school boy in 1915 to his death on the Somme in 1916 whilst serving with the Royal Marine Light Infantry. The book describes his life as a boy at Rugby School, his arguments with his pacifist father, how he was carried along with the patriotic fervour that gripped the country and his impatience to serve at the front.
