The Battles of Festubert, Givenchy and Hill 70 are Canada’s unknown battlefields of the Great War. Although the three battles varied greatly in scope and outcome they all share the sad distinction of being forgotten. There are no memorials to mark the ground on which 3,700 Canadians died. The Battles of Festubert and Givenchy were fought in 1915, after the Second Battle of Ypres, in French Flanders. Both were small, very muddled affairs, and both were failures. The Battle of Hill 70 was fought in 1917, after Vimy, during the glory days of the Canadian Corps. It was a well-planned and efficient battle, a trademark Corps’ operation, and a brilliant success.","brand":"Military History Books","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":67670370648363,"sku":"17353","price":12.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/militaryhistorybooks.com\/products\/for-king-empire-vol-ix-other-canadian-battlefields-of-the-great-war","provider":"Military History Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
