He was apparently an inveterate escape artist who managed to get out of his POW camp on a number of occasions but each time was recaptured until he finally managed to get back to friendly lines.

The book isn't that engaging to be honest as there is often a lack of detail. I tried to look this fellow up because you'd think that being the author of a book, five escape attempts and a Military Medal etc there might be something on him but no, it's a bit of a blank.

Anyway for people who like POW stories this might fit the bill as he doesn't waste time - the book is just over 140 pages long - and he describes conditions in a range of POW camps and the sorts of things that the men would do to amuse themselves. He also describes trying to move around Germany on the battered rail network and finally the even more battered French rail network.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1022/1289/5019/files/five-roads-to-freedom-the-adventures-of-the-war-s-most-persistent-escaper-1977-1st-ed-hb_18529_main_original.jpg?v=1791258017
https://militaryhistorybooks.com/products/five-roads-to-freedom-the-adventures-of-the-war-s-most-persistent-escaper-1977-1st-ed-hb
