Only the exceptional collection of secret documents contained in the Guy Arend's collection made the publication of these texts possible, texts that were based on military documents written during the 1944 campaign itself. We have decided to tell the story of the same battle seen from two different angles. On one hand it gives allied point of view, and on the other the German appreciation. The American text has been drawn from the war diary of General G.S. Patton whose daily notes furnish the most exact and most interesting version of the Ardenne battle as they were written by one of the principle actors at the very moment these events took place. The concise style is typical of General G. S. Patton. The German text was written from memory by the Brigadier General Wagener who, no doubt, played an important part in the battle.
