British and Polish codebreakers at Bletchley Park had broken the German Enigma cipher, but their staff and resources were small. In October 1941, leading codebreakers, including the outstanding Alan Turing, wrote to Winston Churchill asking for help. He ordered that they be given all they needed, adding the instruction: 'Action This Day'. It was to be a key turning point - their brilliant work is believed to have shortened WWII by up to two years. The authors, leading authorities on the work of Bletchley Park, have assembled a number of key writers to explain its importance in the history of codebreaking and the birth of today's computer age.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Military History Books","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":67669418180907,"sku":"16413","price":14.99,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1022\/1289\/5019\/files\/action-this-day-by-michael-smith-ralph-erskine-new-2001-first-edition-hardback_16413_main_original.jpg?v=1791246565","url":"https:\/\/militaryhistorybooks.com\/products\/action-this-day-by-michael-smith-ralph-erskine-new-2001-first-edition-hardback","provider":"Military History Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
